Founder of Dr. Walter GmbH dies

Dr. Siegfried Walter, founder and eponym of the Dr. Walter GmbH died on 19 December 2009 at the age of 87.
50 years ago, he founded the company known today as Dr. Walter GmbH. Back then, he was one of the first to provide insurance solutions to foreign visitors in Germany as well as to Germans living abroad. For several decades, Dr. Siegfried Walter was in charge of the family business, turning it into a renowned travel insurance expert on the German market. Even after retiring from his post as managing director in 2009, he was always there to provide advice and guidance to the company and its more than 50 employees.
Throughout his life, Dr. Siegfried Walter fascinated people with his unconventional and individual ways. He motivated his employees by providing them with a high level of freedom and personal responsibility. He used to listen patiently and was always open to new ideas. ‘As much freedom as possible’ was his motto. “He was the finest boss, mentor and friend that you could wish for”, said Reinhard Bellinghausen, the current managing director of Dr. Walter GmbH. “He will always be a great role model for all of us.”
Dr. Siegfried Walter lived a long and fulfilled life. He leaves behind a wife, three daughters, three sons and numerous grandchildren.
