Increasing number of payment options
30.01.2017
In response to the ever-growing internationalization, Dr. Walter has expanded its variety of payment methods to enable also its customers abroad to easily purchase insurance online, putting a special focus on secure payment processing.
Online payment systems
In addition to the SEPA direct debit scheme, which only applies in Eurozone countries, Dr. Walter now provides a number of online payment systems where all transactions are processed by German Wirecard Bank.
Policyholders are not required to provide their bank data to Dr. Walter. Instead, they get into direct contact with one of the payment service providers. Customers who have studied or worked abroad for some time will probably already have installed a virtual account through which they access their own bank account to pay rent, electricity, internet etc. The most well-known provider of such services in Germany is PayPal but Dr. Walter also uses Dutch online payment system iDEAL as well as the online wire transfer service eps-Überweisung from Austria. Customers can now also pay for insurance using the Sofortüberweisung immediate transfer service. This payment method has become very successful in recent years: if you want to purchase insurance, you simply enter your bank data and an individual transaction number (TAN) to carry out a bank transfer to a payment service provider. Dr. Walter is then notified about the transaction and immediately provides you with the insurance certificate.
Dr. Walter is also planning to offer further eBanking services in the future, for example AliPay for customers in China, a service that cooperates with Chinese banks.
Credit cards
In addition to online payment systems, Dr. Walter accepts all common credit cards such as MasterCard, Maestro, VISA, Diners Club and AmericanExpress. As with other payment methods, Dr. Walter guarantees highest security standards with credit cards as well and therefore only uses the providers’ secure procedures. Dr. Walter will also expand its credit card portfolio to satisfy the needs of its customers all around the world.
For the time being, all mentioned payment methods can only be used to purchase the international health insurance policy PROTRIP-WORLD for high school, language and exchange students as well as for au pairs, Work and Travel participants, volunteers, regular and doctoral students. All other insurance tariffs will gradually also become available for purchase by all the different payment methods mentioned above. Especially Chinese travelers and students, in most cases covered by EUROPE-CARE and EDUCARE24 while staying in Germany, will be happy to get access to payment methods adjusted to the People’s Republic of China.
